FAQs
I know nothing about horses...does that matter?
-
You don’t need to have had any prior experience with horses to benefit from EAT. Your level of interaction with the horse will be guided by you - you can engage as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
Will I be expected to ride the horse?
-
No - in fact, we do not want our clients to ride the horse during the session.
Can I bring my carer/psychologist/support worker?
-
It can be really helpful to have someone with you, who can work with you after the session to reflect on your experience, but it isn’t necessary.
Can I use my NDIS package to access the service?
-
Yes. Equine Therapy is accessible via the NDIS as part of capacity building through Occupational Therapy. If you are unsure whether this applies to your specific NDIS package, please contact us and we can advise you.
Is the facilitator qualified in Equine Assisted Therapy?
-
Jacqui Self facilitates the EAT sessions. Jacqui is a qualified Occupational Therapist with more than three decades of experience. She has undertaken a number of training modules in equine therapy, which she uses as one of the modalities in her Occupational Therapy ‘tool kit’.
